Saving money by avoiding Peak holiday rates is pretty essential when you’re planning to travel australia. It’s really useful to know when the school dates are for both your own children (of course) but also for the regions that you will be visiting. If you’re travelling long term and homeschooling, then you may think it’s not important, but quite the opposite, as it is often the School Terms and school holidays that dictate when the peak holiday seasons and off peak holiday seasons occur. This also means they dictate when accommodation tariffs are at their highest.

Holiday tariffs really are a killer aren’t they! We recently got stung over $60 a night for an unpowered site in Brisbane because it was the tail end of the holiday season! Couldn’t be helped though so we just dealt with it.
Having worked with pricing for resorts around our local region, I do know that they tend to price out the seasons within a week either side of the school holidays, so we try as much as possible to dodge anywhere near holiday seasons at places like caravan parks if we can, although I must say, we prefer free camping where possible as I’m sure you would too 🙂
